How do I file for a restraining order?

The easiest way to ask the court for a restraining order is to use Guide & File. This is an interactive interview that will ask you questions and create forms based on your responses. Choose "Ask for a MN Restraining Order" to get started.
If you prefer to print off and file your forms by hand, the court publishes packets for asking for an Order for Protection or a Harassment Restraining Order. If you aren't sure which forms to use, you may want to review the booklet Orders for Protection and Harassment Restraining Orders, or look as this chart on the differences.
